Once again I made the trip to the Boogie in Belize
from February 10th to the 20th as part of Rich Grimm's Trunami Skydivers
Adventure. I was accompanied by Jesse South & Dave Huntington from the
Vancouver area. As in the past 2 years the boogie was held on Ambergris
Caye, just off the mainland of Belize, using the twin otter from Perris
Skydiving in California. Ambergris Caye is a laid back island roughly 20km
long and at the widest 1km wide, with a mixed population of very friendly
locals, who always make us very welcome. There were about 85 jumpers gathered
from all over the world, skydiving and having fun at all the different
restaurants and bars along the beach, after a full day of skydiving. By the end
of the boogie we had flown 61 loads doing about 1250 skydives, including one
jump into the Blue Hole, an inverted crater 60km out to sea. Once again it was
great to see old friends & make many new ones.
As usual the jumpers all brought as many school
supplies as we could cram into our luggage for the for the local Holy Cross
Anglican school. While there we were also involved with a poker tournament, in
which we raised $2500 for the school. Belize is very poor, and there is little
money invested in education, and we all know education is the key to the
future.
Cheers,
Gord
