When in Canada, do as the Canadians do!

I immigrated to Canada from South Africa in 1987, so I have had personal experience as a new Canadian. I use this experience, combined with my real estate knowledge, to help many other new Canadians get off to a good start in their new home.

Canada, the land of many differences. Open your mind and enjoy it!

The best way to fit into the Canadian lifestyle is to learn from other immigrants and Canadians. You might not like what they have to say but remember, Canadians know how things are done and other immigrants have learnt the hard way. The privacy of others is greatly respected by most Canadians, and therefore they will not be the ones knocking on your door to welcome you to the neighbourhood. So, it's up to you to introduce yourself and make this wonderful place your new home. Most Canadians are interested about the land you come from and will listen to your tales from yonder, but being a "when we" gets a little boring. Embrace the changes that Canada presents to you and enrich your life with new experiences!

In Canada almost everyone makes the most of the great outdoors. Hiking in summer and skiing in winter are great ways to meet new people. Due to the very distinct seasons in Canada there are many ways to get out and experience some of the world's most beautiful places. So, don't let the weather keep you in!

While outdoors you will notice another difference between Canada and some other countries, the large range of cultural diversity. This colorful tapestry of nations brings very interesting people together, but it also means that understanding and tolerance is very important. Canada is made up of so many different cultures, each with their own traditions, values and religious backgrounds. Canadians believe strongly in equality and human rights, and the intolerance thereof is greatly frowned upon.

I hope that the little bits of information will be useful to you. If you decide to make the move to Canada you will see that we have our problems too, but there are definitely more opportunities to take advantage of.
